Shorty Award — Best YouTube Partnership

I develop concepts, write copy and scripts, and lead creative across branded content, digital and social campaigns, and entertainment. I've taken projects from brief through production for brands and studios including LEGO, Google, Lenovo, and Nickelodeon while also writing for YouTube, podcasts, animation, and TV. I've pitched original series, led writers on branded campaigns, and generally love helping ideas get off the ground.

I also have a good head of hair and am compulsively punctual (but those are just fun facts).

Short-Form Copy

Long-form scripts are most of what I do, but a lot of the job is the short stuff — the subject line that has to earn an open, the promo that has to be funny and legally accurate at the same time, the toolkit copy five different creators will each make sound like their own. Here's some of that.

Chortle — two ways to ask for money

Two fundraising emails to the same list on back-to-back days, built on opposite strategies. The first names the stakes and makes an argument. The second leads with social proof and a list of perks. One of them worked considerably better.

Subject line

Comedy is dying. Help me save it.

Can you guess how many websites there are that pay comedy writers?

Seven.

That's not a typo. Across the entire world wide web, I found seven humor publishers with an open submission policy and guaranteed payments. Chortle is one of them.

Opened the argument with a number, then let the number sit there alone. 49% open rate, 2.2% click rate.

Subject line

How often do you actually laugh?

Let's be real — laughter is harder to find than ever. Except here. Maybe you chuckle when we make fun of America's most important idiots. Or maybe you prefer our posts about dating or parenting or aging. Whatever the case, Chortle sends you comedy five days a week, like clockwork.

The perks-and-proof version. 46% open rate, 1.0% click rate.

Same list, two days apart. The mission-driven ask more than doubled the click-through of the benefits-driven one and drove three and a half times the conversions. Naming the stakes beat listing the perks — worth remembering the next time a brief asks for "value props."

Nickelodeon Animation — brand voice at social scale

Social copy for a studio account with an audience that grew up on the brand and can spot a fake. Everything had to sound like Nick without sounding like a marketing department.

Trend-jacking the #20YearsChallenge with a then/now of the studio lobby. Seven words. 14.7K likes.

Legal-reviewed sweepstakes copy with real mechanics — follow, hashtag, tag two friends, age and territory restrictions — that still sounds like the brand instead of like terms and conditions.

One sentence, entire brand.

Google Play × Pokémon GO — copy as campaign architecture

An interactive choose-your-own-adventure campaign built around three training tracks — Music, Fitness, and Exploration. The social layer had to route people into tracks, drive user-generated content back to a single hashtag, and survive being rewritten by every creator who posted it.

Brand-channel post. Poses the track choice as a question, then hands off to the ticket CTA.

I delivered a copy toolkit — a deck of caption options with the hashtag architecture, brand language, and CTA structure built in — for the Try Guys and four guest creators. Each creator adapted it into their own voice. The campaign held together anyway. That's the job.

Chortle — headlines

Five days a week, the headline is the whole ad. Some I write outright. On most, a contributor brings the headline and I write the line underneath that lands it.

Written

  1. Welcome to HBO-Paramount-Disney-Plus-eBay-on-Prime®Let's get streaming!
  2. Coachella for People Approaching 40Headlined by Unexpected Joint Pain and The Early Bedtimes
  3. I've Been Married Four Long, Horrible YearsWife Good, World Bad

Edited — headline by the contributor, subhead by me

  1. Am I The Asshole: Toddler Edition(Posted from Mommy's phone while she's in the bathroom crying)— headline by Lindsey @ Not Normal
  2. It's Anxious Girl Summer! The vibes are immaculate this coping season.— headline by Marie-Hélène Lebeault
  3. Your 2024 Therapy WrappedDamn! You had A LOT of issues this year!— headline by Rachel Forman
